Gentil advanced through to the bracket stage of the World Surf League Championship Tour event before being eliminated in the round of 32, falling to Australian Ryan Callinan 14.37-12.60. Callinan went on to make today’s men’s final, where he lost to fellow Aussie Ethan Ewing 14.50-11.00. The women’s final was also an all-Australian showdown as Tyler Wright defeated Molly Picklum 16.00-12.00.
SECOND PHOTO: Oahu’s John John Florence cuts back during his round-of-16 heat today. Florence was eliminated in the men’s semifinals, while fellow Oahu surfers Carissa Moore and Bettylou Sakura Johnson bowed out in the women’s quarterfinals.
